NBT BANK TO OPEN FINANCIAL CENTER AND BRANCH IN DOWNTOWN SCHENECTADY


SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (OCTOBER 29, 2009) – NBT Bank and Schenectady County officials announced today that NBT Bank will open a financial center and full-service branch in Center City on State Street in downtown Schenectady, pending regulatory approval. The community bank has more than 25 branches in the Capital Region, including one in Duanesburg in Schenectady County.

Jeff Levy, NBT Bank’s Capital Region president, said: “NBT Bank is excited about increasing its presence in the Capital Region by establishing a financial center and branch in downtown Schenectady. Like Schenectady County, NBT Bank has a proud past and a forward-looking attitude. We are happy to be part of the community’s renaissance by offering our highly personalized brand of banking.”

Susan E. Savage, chair of the Schenectady County Legislature, said: “We welcome NBT Bank’s new location in Schenectady County. This is a great addition to our community and helps continue our efforts to attract new jobs and new investments.”

NBT Bank will lease about 8,000 square feet in Center City. The lease includes room for office space and a branch facing State Street. Center City is a 200,000-square-foot building under construction in downtown Schenectady. It is located across from the city’s historic Proctor’s Theatre. It is a mixed-use complex that will feature Class A office space, a new 30,000-square-foot YMCA and retail space along State Street in a resurgent area.

David Buicko, chief operating officer of the Schenectady-based Galesi Group, developer of Center City, said: “This commitment by NBT Bank is part of our ongoing work to bring first-class businesses to the heart of the new downtown Schenectady.”

NBT Bank provides personal banking, asset management and business services. The independent community bank, based in Norwich, N.Y., has 84 offices in upstate New York. The bank recently expanded into Vermont by opening a regional office in Burlington. The bank’s Pennstar Bank division has 38 offices in northeastern Pennsylvania. NBT Bank’s parent company, NBT Bancorp Inc., had assets of $5.5 billion as of September 30, 2009.
