NBT BANK RECEIVES AWARD FOR HISTORICAL EXHIBIT AT JOHNSON CITY OFFICE

NORWICH, N.Y. (JULY 22, 2010) – NBT Bank received an APEX 2010 Award of Excellence in the category of Special Purpose Writing for its historical exhibit at its Johnson City Office.

APEX 2010—the 22nd annual Awards for Publication Excellence—is an international competition that recognizes outstanding communications in a variety of categories. The awards are based on "excellence in graphic design, quality of editorial content and the success of the entry in conveying the message and achieving overall communications effectiveness." The awards are sponsored by Springfield, Va.-based Communications Concepts, Inc., publishers of business communication reports.

The historical exhibit is titled From Shoes to Savings: The Story of the Charles F. Johnson Jr. House. NBT Bank's Johnson City Office is in the former home of Charles F. Johnson Jr., a longtime Endicott Johnson Corporation executive. At its peak in the first half of the 1900s, EJ was one of the world's largest producers of shoes and employed about 20,000 in the Binghamton area. The company was also a pioneer in corporate citizenship and employee relations and benefits. Regarding the exhibit, an APEX 2010 judge commented: "A riveting history. Who knew shoes could be so interesting?" The second-floor exhibit is free and open to the public during the Johnson City Office's normal lobby hours.

NBT Bank Regional President Jeff Lake said: "Our exhibit tells one of the most important stories of our local heritage. Hundreds have visited this exhibit since it opened in late August 2009. Its development was a true community effort, and we couldn't be happier with the positive community response to the final product. This is an award we proudly share with residents of Greater Binghamton."

NBT Bank provides personal banking, asset management and business services. The independent community bank, based in Norwich, N.Y., has 85 offices in upstate New York and one office in Burlington, Vt. NBT Bank's parent company, NBT Bancorp Inc., had assets of $5.5 billion as of March 31, 2010.
